About the deck
- Vampires, white-black lifegain. Every lifelink and drain effect fuels Vona, Butcher of Magan: pay 7 life to destroy any nonland permanent, once per turn. Lifegain isn't a side theme here; it's the removal engine.
- Redundancy: lots of lifelink sources and drain triggers (Sanctum Seeker, Vicious Conquistador, Skymarch Bloodletter, Vampire Sovereign, Sanguine Bond), plus 11 removal spells on top of Vona.
- The answer deck: Vona is a removal machine, which makes this probably the best of my decks at dealing with threats.
Gameplan
- Turns 1–4: cheap vampires and lifelink tokens (Legion's Landing, Queen's Commission, Call to the Feast).
- Lords: Legion Lieutenant, Markov Baron, Captivating Vampire, Crossway Troublemakers.
- Turns 5+: Vona arrives with vigilance and lifelink. Each turn, pay 7 life to destroy their best permanent; the drain effects pay that life back.
- Flyers: Bloodline Keeper makes a 2/2 flying vampire every turn and later becomes a vampire lord.
- Win: a wide lifelinking vampire attack, Sanguine Bond turning lifegain into damage, or Aetherflux Reservoir.
- Card draw: Champion of Dusk, Phyrexian Arena, Night's Whisper, Sign in Blood, Read the Bones, Twilight Prophet. The deck pays life to draw and gains it back.
Weaknesses
- Board wipes, since many creatures are small.
- Vona is a 5-drop and a big removal target.
