About the deck
- Mono-red aggro with a land lock. Zhao, the Moon Slayer is a 2-mana attacker with menace, and nonbasic lands enter tapped while he's out. With a conqueror counter (seven mana) he turns every nonbasic land into a Mountain. The deck plays 26 basic Mountains, so that only hurts the opponent.
- More moons: Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon do the same; against a multicolor deck, its lands suddenly only make red.
- Fast threats and burn: Monastery Swiftspear, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Goblin Rabblemaster, Glorybringer, Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Burst Lightning, Fiery Confluence.
- Avatar flavor: firebending cards like Zuko, Exiled Prince, Iroh, Dragon of the West, Avatar Roku, Firebender, Fire Sages, Sozin's Comet and Fire Nation Attacks.
Gameplan
- Turns 1–3: one-drops and Zhao; burn the blockers.
- The lock: Zhao, Blood Moon or Magus of the Moon against decks with many nonbasic lands.
- Card flow, red style: play cards from the top of the library with Laelia, the Blade Reforged, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Zuko, Exiled Prince, Outpost Siege and Fable of the Mirror-Breaker.
- Damage: Torbran, Thane of Red Fell adds 2 to every damage a red source deals; Siege-Gang Commander and Urabrask's Forge keep the attackers coming.
- Finish: Glorybringer, Etali, Primal Storm, Avatar Roku, Firebender, burn to the face, Sozin's Comet.
- Protection: Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots.
Weaknesses
- Runs out of cards against lifegain and big blockers (Rampaging Ferocidon at least stops lifegain).
- Enchantments: no answer at all; artifacts only through Abrade.
- The lock does nothing against a mono-colored deck with basic lands.

How hard is it to play? Aggro is simple to start, but the burn needs aiming: blockers or the face? And when the moon effects should come down to lock the opponent.
Colors: R 31 sources for 84 red symbols.
Lands: 34 lands + 2 ramp (2 mana rocks). 72% of opening hands have 2–4 lands (2: 31%, 3: 27%, 4: 14%). Chance to have 3 lands by turn 3: 66%, 4 by turn 4: 47%, 5 by turn 5: 31% (going first, no mulligan).
